Three tips on buying advertising space in ethnic and community newspapers

I have been selling advertising space for 15 years for papers like Alberta Native News and here are three tips for advertising in ethnic and small community newspapers many newspaper publishers won’t like me telling you.

1) Write the ad yourself. Most people selling advertising space know little, if anything, about advertising. I do design ads for many of my clients. However, to save time and money I look for ads people have already placed and use them whenever possible.

2) Ask for far forward right hand placement. The ideal placement is on the third page above the fold.

3) Ask for a free article about you and your company. Many small newspaper will be happy to have a writer interview you over the phone when you buy larger ads. The size of the ad depends on the readership of the paper and how bad the newspaper needs the advertising revenue.

Summer is slow for most newspapers as decision makers are often away or are too busy filling in for staff on vacation. You can usually get free articles especially when your market area is saturated with small publications. December, on the other hand, is very profitable month so you probably won’t get a free article.

I hope this helps some of you

MarketingExperiments.com Publishes PPC Relevance Case Studies Regarding Paid Subscription Sites

MarketingExperiments.com just released their latest brief where you get the results of two pay per click marketing tests for Encyclopedia Britannica and a major online newspaper.

Relevance, as you may know, is how closely related the keywords in your ads and the keywords on your landing page are to the actual search term the visitor entered.

It stands to reason closely matching ads and landing pages should get more qualified visitors and conversions, doesn’t it?

The Britannica test showed how changing just one word in the ad resulted in 147% more clicks.

The second case study delves into more esoteric relevance issues such as relational relevance, necessity relevance, instant recognition and visitor motivation.

MarketingExperiments.com publishes these briefs twice a month. If you are looking for valuable insights gathered from actual case studies internet so you can implement internet marketing best practices for your own business then I suggest you subscribe to MarketingExperiments.com free internet marketing newsletter

The Five Most Common Annoying Internet Marketing Tactics Guaranteed to Drive Visitors Away (Part Two)

Here is another way sleazy grease balls drive people away.

Don’t you really hate Spammers using your email address as the return address?

I am sure you would remember sending sixty seven emails about a sale on Viagra, wouldn’t you?

This is definitely one of the most annoying tactics around.

But it must work as Spammers keep on doing it.

Later, Part Three of The Five Most Common Annoying Internet Marketing Tactics Guaranteed to Drive Visitors Away.

Five Annoying Internet Marketing Tactics Guaranteed to Drive Visitors Away (Part One)

If you been on the internet for more than a day or two, I am sure you have wanted to ring the necks of some webmasters, haven’t you?

Don’t you hate when you jump through hoop after hoop, just to find nothing of value.

A long time ago someone said, “if you satisfy a customer they will tell one maybe two friends. If you make them mad they will tell everyone they know.”

Here are five techniques guaranteed to make people angry

1) Using search engine optimized as part of their campaigns.

Private label rights predate the internet. I suspect the name private label is from the clothing industry where somebody can pay a manufacturer to put their name on the label.

I am sure most celebrities did not open their own manufacturing plants. No, they outsourced manufacturing.

Now more people have the opportunity to make money online by using private label content. Possessing the ability to construct a sentence is no longer a prerequisite for being a writer. Private label rights are available for e-zines, websites, software and e-books.

Private label content can be… well, quite good. The products might just be superb. However, most internet marketing products sold with private label rights are shoddy products. Like all things for sale you get what you pay for.

However, sending articles designed to rank high in search engine, no matter how well written, as content for a series of emails or an e-zine annoys subscribers to no end.

These articles are stuffed with keyword phrases robots like. People, on the other hand, find them boring and repetitive.

Let me illustrate. I spend fifteen to twenty hours a week working for Alberta Native News, I read as much as I can about advertising, sales and copywriting. One day, while surfing the net, I signed up for a free twenty four part email course on copywriting.

Every single email was stuffed with high demand keyword phrases few websites target such as copywriting assignments or copy writing as a job. Being Adsense articles they offer no value. The point of Adsense articles is to make the visitor want to leave the site by clicking on of the Google Ads.

After the third article I left by clicking on the unsubscribe link, wouldn’t you?
